Abdul Hadi bin Awang

Abdul Hadi bin Awang is a Malaysian politician and religious teacher born on 20 October 1947. He has served as the Member of Parliament for Marang since October 1990 and as the 7th President of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) since June 2002, making him the longest-serving President in the party's history. He was also the Leader of the Opposition from September 2002 to March 2004 and the 11th Menteri Besar of Terengganu from December 1999 to March 2004. He studied at the Islamic University of Madinah and Al-Azhar University. Hadi Awang is known for making controversial remarks against non-Muslim minorities and Malay Muslims who do not subscribe to his ultraconservative religious views.
