Ramkarpal Singh

Ramkarpal Singh, born on 9 April 1976, is a Malaysian politician and lawyer. He is the son of the late Karpal Singh and younger brother of Gobind Singh Deo and Jagdeep Singh Deo. Admitted to the Malaysian bar in 2000, he currently heads his late father's law firm in Green Hall, Penang, and has served as the legal representative for the family of Altantuya Shaariibuu. He was involved in the accident that tragically took his father's life. He was educated at St. Xavier's Institution and Seri Inai School in Penang, and later earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Bristol, being called to the bar by Gray's Inn. A member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), he was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Bukit Gelugor in May 2014 during a by-election, retaining the seat in the 2018 General Elections. He served as the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Law and Institutional Reforms from December 2022 to December 2023 and as Chairman of the Consideration of Bills Select Committee from July 2019 to 2020. He is slated to become Deputy Secretary-General of DAP from March 2025 and State Deputy Chairman of DAP of Penang from September 2024.
