Shahidan bin Kassim
Shahidan bin Kassim, born on 17 June 1951 in Tambun Tulang, is a Malaysian politician. He attended Sekolah Menengah Sultan Abdul Halim. His political career began as a Member of Parliament for Arau from 1986 to 1995. In 1995, he was elected to the Perlis State Legislative Assembly for Tambun Tulang and became the 7th Menteri Besar of Perlis, serving until March 2008. After a period as a backbencher in the State Assembly, he returned to federal politics in 2013, winning the Arau parliamentary seat. He served as a Minister in the Prime Minister's Department from May 2013 to May 2018. Following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government, he chaired the PN Government Backbenchers Club from May 2020 to August 2021. He was appointed Chairman of Perbadanan Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) from March to November 2021 and later as Minister of Federal Territories from August 2021 to November 2022. He was also President of the Kuala Lumpur City F.C. from August 2022 to June 2023. Previously a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), he is now a Member of Central Working Committee of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and continues to serve as the MP for Arau. He is the older brother of Ismail Kassim.
