Syerleena binti Abdul Rashid
Syerleena Abdul Rashid (born 31 August 1980) is a Malaysian politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Bendera since November 2022. She previously served as a Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Seri Delima from May 2018 to August 2023 and as a Penang Island City Councillor from 2015 to 2018. A member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), she joined the party in 2013. Syerleena was born in Kedah and grew up in Penang, completing her education at SRK Convent Green Lane, SMK Convent Green Lane, and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Beyond politics, she was a columnist for The Malaysian Insider and contributed to various online news portals. She is also involved with NGOs like Aliran and an anti-human trafficking movement. Her political career began as a Penang Island City Councillor where she advocated for public infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and transparency. As an MLA, she championed gender equality, youth empowerment, and institutional reforms. As an MP, she holds the position of Political Education Director for DAP Wanita and serves on the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for Women, Children and Community Development, as well as chairs the APPGM for Refugee Policies. Her motto is "Malaysia Milik Kita Bersama", emphasizing inclusivity and collective progress.
