
Mohd Shafie bin Apdal
Mohd Shafie bin Apdal (born 20 October 1957) is a Malaysian politician from Semporna, Sabah. He began his political journey with the United Sabah National Organisation (USNO) before joining UMNO in 1994, where he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Semporna in 1995. Over his career in UMNO and the Barisan Nasional coalition, he held various deputy minister and ministerial portfolios, including Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, Deputy Minister for Defence, Minister of Domestic, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Minister of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage, and Minister of Rural and Regional Development. He also served as a Vice-President of UMNO. In 2015, he was removed from the cabinet and subsequently founded the Heritage Party (WARISAN) in October 2016. Under WARISAN, he became the 15th Chief Minister of Sabah and State Minister of Finance from May 2018 to September 2020. He is currently the MP for Semporna, MLA for Senallang, and State Leader of the Opposition of Sabah. He is the nephew of Sakaran Dandai, former Chief Minister and Governor of Sabah.
