Ramli bin Mohd Nor

Ramli bin Mohd Nor was born on 1 October 1958 at Batu 12 Orang Asli Settlement, Jalan Pahang, Gombak, Selangor. His father was an Orang Asli from the Semai tribe from Cameron Highlands, Pahang, and his mother was from the Temiar tribe from Gua Musang, Kelantan. He had a 38-year career in public service, starting in 1980 as a port traffic officer at Johor Port Authority until 1984. He then joined the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) in 1984 and retired as a senior police officer with the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in 2018. On 26 January 2019, Ramli contested and won the Cameron Highlands by-election as a direct member of Barisan Nasional (BN), becoming the first indigenous Orang Asli candidate elected to the Dewan Rakyat as an MP. Following his win, he joined UMNO. He was appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of Amanah Raya Berhad (ARB) on 15 May 2020. In December 2022, he was officially appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat I, after previously serving as temporary Deputy Speaker II from 1 March 2022, making him the first Orang Asli to hold the position of deputy speaker.
