Biography

Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan (born 9 January 1979 in Subang Jaya, Selangor) is Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of the Federal Territories, appointed in 2025 after serving as Minister of Youth and Sports from 2022 to 2025. She is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP). Yeoh was educated at Sekolah Kebangsaan Subang Jaya and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Subang Utama before reading law at the University of Tasmania, graduating in 2001. She practised briefly in Tasmania and then for three years at a firm in Petaling Jaya, and worked in event management before joining DAP in 2006. Two years later she won the Subang Jaya state seat at the 2008 general election with a majority of 13,851 votes. In June 2013, at 34, she was sworn in as Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly — the youngest person and the first woman to hold a state speakership in Malaysia — serving until 2018. She moved to federal politics that year and was appointed Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, a post she held until the Pakatan Harapan government fell in February 2020. As Youth and Sports Minister from December 2022 she was responsible for national sports administration and youth policy, before a 2025 reshuffle moved her to the Federal Territories portfolio. Yeoh is a Christian and is married to Ramachandran Muniandy, chief executive of the technology firm Asia Mobiliti; they have two children. In 2011 she attempted to register her daughter's race as "anak Malaysia" rather than a single ethnic category — the National Registration Department rejected the application, and the episode became a widely discussed illustration of how Malaysian identity is recorded officially.
