Sim Tze Tzin

Sim Tze Tzin, born on 6 February 1976 in George Town, Penang, is a Malaysian politician and engineer. He attended Hu Yew Seah School and Chung Ling High School. In 1996, he joined the Reserve Army, becoming a Junior Lieutenant in 1999. His political awakening began after the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and the Oslo Accord. In 1998, he joined the Reformasi movement led by Anwar Ibrahim and founded the Malaysia Youth and Students Democratic Movement (DEMA). He earned a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1999, where he was the first non-Malay elected to the Students' Representative Council. He later obtained a Masters of Science (Civil) in Highway Engineering from San José State University, while working as a highway design engineer in California from 2001 to 2006. During his time in the US, he founded the Malaysia Forum Organization. Upon returning to Malaysia, he joined PKR. He served as the Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pantai Jerejak from March 2008 to May 2013. Since May 2013, he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bayan Baru. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry from July 2018 to February 2020. Since April 2024, he also serves as the Political Secretary of the Office of the President of PKR. He is a member of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for International Affairs.
