Khoo Poay Tiong
Khoo Poay Tiong, born 13 December 1970, is the eldest son of Khoo Nian Koon, a tailor in Malacca town. He is married to Lee Wei Cheng and has three daughters. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Economics from the University of Malaya. Prior to his political career, he was a senior manager at Maybank, quitting in 2008 to enter politics. He was first elected as the State Assemblyman for Ayer Keroh in the 12th General Election (2008), retaining his seat and being elected as the Opposition Leader for Malacca in the 13th General Election (2013). In 2018, he moved to federal politics, winning the Kota Melaka federal seat in the 2018 general election and being elected as MP. He was re-elected as Kota Melaka MP in the 2022 general election. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of Pakatan Harapan and formerly Pakatan Rakyat coalitions. He has served as Chairman of the Secretariat of the Malaysian Chinese New Village Division since May 2024 and State Chairman of DAP of Malacca since June 2024. He has also served as the National Organising Secretary of DAP since March 2025, prior to which he was the Assistant National Organising Secretary of DAP from November 2017. He was also the State Vice Chairman of DAP prior to his promotion to state chairmanship. He is currently the sole Malacca DAP MP. In 2024, he was a Recipient of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Installation Medal.
