Bills & voting(2)

• RANG UNDANG-UNDANG KESELAMATAN SOSIAL PEKERJA (PINDAAN) 2025

Bacaan Kali Yang Kedua dan Ketiga

  Agreed

The bill seeks to amend the Social Security Act 1969 to extend 24/7 protection to workers through the proposed Skim Lindung 24 Jam (24-Hour Protection Scheme) or Skim Keselamatan Bukan Bencana Kerja (SKBBK), covering accidents occurring outside working hours, such as during commuting or personal travel. The Minister for Human Resources argued that current law leaves workers and families financially devastated when accidents occur off the job, citing tragic cases like Muhammad Firdaus and Muhammad Amir Mohd Alowi, whose families bore massive medical and funeral costs. The bill aims to close this protection gap by requiring minimal monthly contributions (e.g., RM12.35 for a RM1,700 salary) to provide benefits including temporary and permanent disability payments, survivor benefits, education loans, and funeral assistance, thereby preventing families from falling into poverty due to work-related or non-work-related accidents.

The bill was read for the second and third times and agreed to by voice vote, with no formal division recorded.
